The upcoming jupiter Uranus conjunction in taurus, akira toriyama (鳥三明) and steve jobs
More than a month ago when I set out to write something on the upcoming Jupiter Uranus conjunction in Taurus (occuring on 21st April, 2024 at 21°49’ Taurus), there was news of the death of famous Japanese manga artist Akira Toriyama (鳥三明) and I decided to quickly take a look at his astrology chart for my own study and research.
Studying other people’s chart has really been for me the most effective way to learn and gain insights in astrology. Not to my surprise, Toriyama has a natal Jupiter Uranus conjunction as he was born in the 1950s during which Jupiter Uranus met in the sign of Cancer, (Jupiter and Uranus form a conjunction around every 12-14 years in different zodiac signs) which I thought is still worthwhile to share under the same blog post as regardless of the sign the two planets are in conjunction in, Jupiter Uranus conjunction aspect carries this flavor of an outburst of breakthrough creative energy and any person born under this transit, if they have personal planets (namely, Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars) touching the Jupiter Uranus aspect, they’re likely to going to live quite a Jupiter Uranian life. The timing of their creative outburst will be marked by significant transits touching such aspects in their chart.
I’m sure there is already so much written online about what this conjunction symbolizes, so I won’t repeat what probably other astrologers have written about this aspect (feel free to google!) In particular, through evolutionary astrologer Steven Forrest’s recent recording on the upcoming Jupiter Uranus conjunction in Taurus, I learnt about another astrologer Jessica Davidson’s research, which I shall link here specifically for anyone interested in reading up on how the world undergoes interesting technological advancements during each Jupiter Uranus conjunctions in the past (The Jupiter Uranus Cycle: Archetypes and History – Jessica Davidson). Well afterall, Uranus is the god of technology and Jupiter expands whatever it touches. I’ll be curious about any intriguing and defining technological breakthroughs in the realm of farming and agriculture that will come about from this new Jupiter Uranus cycle in Taurus given Taurus’ association with land and agriculture (I shall do some research on this later and share accordingly if I spot something along these lines).
As for this transit’s impact on the personal level, given the conjunction is occuring at 21 degree Taurus, anyone with their sun sign in Taurus, Capricorn or Virgo are likely going to experience this transit in the friendliest manner, with people born with their Suns at or within a few degrees of 21 degree in those three signs feeling it the most (these are those born 8-14 May, 9-15 Jan, 11-17 Sep). Expect fresh opportunities to strike and possibly out-of-the-blue, as Uranus is rarely short of surprises!
Back to Toriyama’s chart whom I studied because of his Jupiter Uranus aspect. Let’s take a look at when his Jupiter Uranus conjunction was activated and how that transformed his life. Natally he is born under strong Jupiter Uranian energy, with four of his personal planets being touched by this aspect. The Jupiter Uranus conjunction trines both Saturn and Mercury (for those who is familiar with astrology, this is also called a grand trine) - with Mercury in these aspects and in the sign of Pisces, Akira has a brilliant mind and a mind not short of great imagination. His Jupiter Uranus conjunction is also in a wide square to his natal Sun and a 135 degree angle to his natal Venus; both aspects further emphasize the strength of Jupiter Uranus energies in his chart. This is someone who’s life, persona (Sun), and values (Venus) embody Jupiter Uranian energy, or in laymen non-astrological terms, someone who probably loves to take risk, is motivated to create disruptive changes in a big way, and is likely to be able to enjoy a lot of luck too! This is not to say that he doesn’t have the talent and determination that are equally if not more important drivers of success - look at how Jupiter Uranus conjunction also trines Saturn in his chart, someone who can turn disruptive visions into practical reality (Saturn!) too.
In 1980, Akira gave birth to the very successful and famous Dr Slump manga series (which has sold 35 million copies by 2008) which made Akira a household name. Looking at the transits in the sky for Akira at that time, his lovely Jupiter Uranus Mercury and Saturn grand trine was being set off by transiting Uranus at 23 degrees Scorpio. His success with Dr Slump was later followed by yet another blockbuster success, the Dragon Ball series in 1984. See his astrological natal chart and transit chart for 1980. Birthtime of his chart is unknown therefore the exact placements of his planets in terms of houses are not known but the planetary aspects, signs and degrees can still be read except for the moon as the moon moves relatively quickly.
Apple Company Steve Jobs, who was born around a month before Akira Toriyama, also has strong Jupiter Uranus energy in his chart. Jobs’ Jupiter Uranus conjunction lands in his tenth house, house of career (don’t think I need to explain this too much!), and interestingly, the conjunction also touches his Venus and Sun like that of Toriyama. However, both their Venus and Sun signs are different, which may explain the difference in their career paths. Job’s Venus lands in sturdy and money-oriented Taurus, suggesting someone with a nag for business, while Toriyama’s Venus is in creative, artistic Pisces. Venus often suggests what someone values and is deeply interested or in love with.
A bit different in terms of timing, Steve Jobs’ success seems to have been set off by an Uranus transit (trine) to his natal Sun in 1976 which was when he co-founded Apple with Steve Wozniak. In 1985 Jobs was kicked out of Apple due to power struggle within the company but rejoined the company in 1997 as CEO. In 1997, Jupiter conjoined Uranus in the sky in the sign Aquarius, Aquarius is a techie sign and the sign of Uranus too; how symbolic it was that it was the year Steve Jobs returned to Apple as CEO which I believe laid the foundation for the era of technolocal transformation that was to come. The Jupiter Uranus conjunction in Aquarius that occured in 1997 also touched his natal moon which I believe was a very creative and emotionally satisfying time for him.
You can see how the Jupiter Uranus conjunction works wonders both in natal chart and through transits! If you want to know how this year’s Jupiter Uranus conjunction impacts you specifically and you do not know too much about astrology, feel free to book a reading!
